Biblical Backgrounds for Biblical Theology
Sound Booth
What these verses intimate
is that even as early as Paul's lifetime, there was an objective, agreed-upon body of Biblical knowledge from
which a pastor could recognizably deviate, and which functioned as a standard
by which the preaching and ministry of professing Christian pastors could
be judged.
- In other words, Paul
had a Biblical theology, and he exhorted the pastors who he discipled to stay
faithful to it in their preaching and discipling.
- This is what it means
to be sound in the faith, or to preach sound doctrine. It is to believe, obey, and preach all the
doctrine of the Bible in a way that is accurate, reliable, faithful.
