The Bible presents clear answers to each one of those basic
questions, all of which are wrapped up neatly in the gospel message - what
Paul refers to in 1Cor 1:19 as the message of the cross.
- So there is a discernable message in the Bible that encapsulates the
Christian worldview. That message is the gospel. And unless the gospel
that we preach or hear is consistent with the answers that the gospel
gives to the questions posed above, we are preaching or hearing
a different gospel.
- According to the Bible, preaching a different gospel has clear and
drastic consequences for the preacher. "But even if we, or an angel
from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have
preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say
again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you
received, he is to be accursed (Gal 1:8-9)!"
- It is therefore imperative that preachers get the message right, and
that church members know how to discern between the gospel preached
rightly and the gospel whirled together with worldly "wisdom".
