What are the Biblical Metaphors for the gospel?

Meta-fours

Redemption teaches us to think about the gospel in economic terms.

  • Jesus has bought and brought us out of slavery to sin. Christ's death was the price paid for our freedom from sin. It is how God has redeemed us from our slavery to sin.
  • Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us (Gal 3:13).

Reconciliation teaches us to think about the gospel in relational terms.

  • As God's rebellious creatures who were made in His image yet disobedient to His will, He has now restored our fellowship with Him, and His with us, by the death of His Son Jesus Christ.
  • For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life (Rom 5:10).
