Is Change Needed?

Short Change

  • At the heart of conversion is the concept of change. In any area of life, whether electrical outlets or religious identification, converting means changing.
  • But this idea of change as applied to our spiritual lives immediately raises a very personal question: Is change needed? Do I need to change?
  • For many, this question elicits an adamantly negative response. We don't naturally want to believe that we need to change.
  • In fact, it is popular today to believe that personal maturity consists primarily in embracing who we are with all our faults and foibles, and that working for deep change in our own hearts will actually work against the healthy growth of our personal fulfillment and self-worth.
  • "I don't need to change; I just need to accept who I am. I don't need someone else to change me; I just need someone else to accept me. My primary need is acceptance, not change."
