According to the Bible, we can never please God merely by the things we think or do.
- We can't please Him by merely believing orthodox truth about him.
- Because this people draw near me with their words and honor Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from me, and their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote, therefore...the wisdom of their wise men will perish, and the discernment of their discerning men will be concealed (Isa 29:13-14)
- We can't please Him by merely pulling ourselves up by our own moral bootstraps.
- For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Eph 2:8-9).
