What is Evangelism?
What is Evangelism NOT?
The Academy of Apologetics
- Often people
assume that defending the faith by answering the questions and objections
of skeptics is evangelism.
- Apologetics
can certainly, and often does, lead to evangelism. But unless Jesus is presented
as God's only provision for man's sin and repentance and belief are presented
as the only way to obtain acquittal before God, the exercise remains merely
academic and cognitive.
The Variety
of Results
- Perhaps the
majority of people have confused evangelism with the desired or expected results
of evangelism. But evangelism is not simply seeing people converted.
- True evangelism
can occur a thousand times without a single convert. Confusing evangelism
with its results will eventually lead to frustration and disillusionment.
- Paul was still
doing evangelism in Acts 13:44-47 even though the Jews "repudiated it
and judged themselves unworthy of eternal life."
